What Will Be My Hotel Experience Post COVID-19?

Although many of us are still under stay-at-home orders, hotels are beginning to reopen their doors to travelers.
However, the future of hotel experience won’t be the same anymore. The hotel industry knows it will have to change and adapt because of the repercussions of COVID-19.
According to STR (a hospitality data company), the hotel industry dropped profitability by 101.7% in March alone.
What Will Our Future Hotel Experience Be Like?
Post COVID-19, not many people would think twice about staying at a hotel for the night - where almost every day a new person stays in that room. However after the pandemic has raced across the world, people are becoming much more aware and conscious of where they stay and what they touch.
What is the hotel industry doing about this? Are they going to change their sanitation guidelines and enforce stricter cleanliness?
These are all questions as avid travelers, we need to know -
Recently, The American Hotel & Lodging Association has created new safety and health guidelines for hotels across the nation. The hotel industry has embraced these new guidelines and some are even taking it a step further.
Let’s take a look at what these new standards are going to change for U.S. travelers.
Arriving at Your Hotel
Whether you are flying or driving to your destination, hotels are going to begin cleaning against the spread of germs before you even arrive. Cleaning crews and concierges, dressed in proper personal protection equipment (PPE), will be cleaning and sanitizing areas that are identified as high contact points.
Valets and Bellhops
As you arrive at your hotel, don’t expect a valet to immediately greet you and park your car. Some hotels may be removing their valet drivers all together while others may require their valets to disinfect your vehicle first.
After parking your car, you may have to start carrying your own bags up to the room. Hotels are beginning to remove their Bellhops in order to help reduce the spread of germs.
Lobby and Checking In
Before you’re allowed to step into the hotel, you may be required to also wear proper PPE. Not only that but you may be screened and have your temperature checked as well.
Some hotels are going to begin offering curbside check-in while others are going to be launching apps that will allow you to digitally check-in. This will help to prevent the spread of germs from too many customers in a lobby and also contact through room keys.
The Hotel and Your Rooms
After checking in digitally and parking your car, you will likely need to walk yourself to the room, as hotels will likely no longer have escorts. As you walk to your room, you’ll most likely see cleaning staff, as most hotels will want you to see they are constantly cleaning.
Once in your room, it may be a bit more bare than normal. Hotels will be removing unnecessary items to reduce how much needs sanitized every day.
You may also notice hotels leaving seal notes to let you know that no one has been in your room since you left.
Housekeeping and Room Service
Instead of receiving room service every day while you’re gone, hotels will begin having their staff clean less often, but more vigorously. This will provide less contact between staff and guests while still ensuring cleanliness.
Room service won’t be the same anymore. Most hotels will provide a similar service to curbside pick up, such as grab and go services.
You will also no longer see buffets. Instead, hotels will start limiting their restaurant capacity and ensure social distancing for their guests.
