Learn How Clean Your Hotel/Resort Room Is

Despite the beautiful architecture and beautiful interior design, the cleanliness of a hotel is of the utmost importance to travelers and guests. With constant stories about unchanged bed sheets, unsanitary glassware, we always want to know if the room we are staying in lives up to its cleanliness standards.

Travel has become easier in recent years. However, with the increase in demand has led to a decrease in the quality of service and general hotel standards. In this article, I give easy tips on how you can tell if your hotel room is worth staying in. This will give you peace of mind and you’ll be able to enjoy your stay and ultimately your holiday.

1, Check Out Reviews

The quickest way to tell if the hotel you’re choosing for your stay is well maintained is by looking at guest reviews. Guest reviews should be your first line of defense. People are often quick to speak about their horrible experiences as well as their enjoyable stays. Look through popular review sites and gauge how they rank on cleanliness.

Large hotels often get yearly inspections and because of this, their cleanliness scores are often higher. Smaller hotels don’t get inspected as often, therefore it’s important to stay up to date with customer reviews to give you a clear picture.

2. Inspect the lobby

The lobby and reception area is your first real impression of the hotel room you intend to stay at. You might not be spending a lot of your time there. However, if the hotel cannot keep their lobby clean, they will certainly pay less attention to the rooms themselves. If the floors are littered and carpet stained, you should probably reconsider choosing the hotel for your stay.

3. Inspect the bathroom

A poorly cleaned bathroom is a sure sign of a dirty hotel room. The floor tiles in hotel bathrooms can be a cesspool of bacteria that can cause fungal infections. When the tiles are not cleaned thoroughly, you’ll notice black stains or greenish mold so it will be safe to stay away. Look out for stains on the mirror, stray hairs on the walls and floors, and/or stains at the base of the toilet.

4. Check the linen

Bedspreads are easily neglected and are not changed after every guest uses them. So it would be best practice to remove them and request for a blanket if you’re feeling cold. Also, be sure to use the pillows from the closet; they will probably be cleaner than the ones on the bed. Look out for brown spots on the sheet before laying down. This could be a sign of bed bugs.

5. Pay attention but stay calm

No hotel room can be 100% clean. Use your best judgment to inspect your room and look for clear signs of uncleanliness. If you’re a traveler who enjoys budget stays, you should be ready for certain conditions and prepare for them accordingly. You should not be afraid to inform the hotel of unsanitary conditions. They will be quick to change anything that will displease you.

Booking a hotel room can be a gamble. You’re never sure of the state of your hotel room before check-in, especially if it’s your first time visiting a new area. A travel agency often has good relationships with hotels and they will be sure to recommend the best hotels for your stay within your budget.
