Are You An American that Loves to Travel in Europe? Read This Before You Make Travel Plans.

It has finally been decided - the European Union has temporarily banned Americans from touring their countries. So it will be a while before you can enjoy macarons in a quaint bakery in Paris. This news comes as no surprise to many as many media houses had predicted that this would happen. With our surging numbers and what they consider a poor response to the pandemic, it was inevitable that this would happen.

Countries that have been allowed to travel into the EU include Australia, Algeria, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay. These countries are considered to have a relatively low number of COVID-19 infections and do not pose a health risk to EU nations. Other countries in Europe exempt from the restrictions are Liechtenstein, Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway.

The metric used by the EU to decide which countries to bar from travel into their countries was calculating the average number of new cases per 100,000 people. At the time of their decision, the United States had a score of 107. With rates of infection decreasing in Europe and other countries, the United States is still seeing a steady increase. This is said to be primarily because intervention and prevention measures have been heavily politicized by both major parties, curbing efforts being made by health experts. Without a proper protocol as to how we handle the spread of the disease, it is likely to continue undeterred. It is important that people take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and neighbors from the disease.

European travel may temporarily be out of reach for Americans, however, there are still many countries that we can vacation in after the worst of the disease has passed. Many Caribbean countries and other far-flung areas are still accessible to us.

When traveling, it is important to make sure you adhere to strict safety precautions and guidelines given by these countries. This is to protect yourself and the residents of those countries. Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Belize will require that tourists get a test confirming their COVID-19 negative status. Many countries are implementing health protocols based on the advice of the WHO and CDC.

These practices, protocols, and regulations may be difficult to navigate and take note of — especially if you are planning your vacation on your own. At our travel agency, we believe that you work hard—but you shouldn't have to when planning your next vacation.
