Renowned for its beautiful blue water, the largest alpine lake in North America summons adventurous travelers during the year. 7. Williamsburg

This city of Virginia is jam packed with historical sites that offer an insight into how colonists lived. Travelers may visit blacksmith and masonry shops or tour restored homes from the 18th century complete with reenactors dressed in garb of the time. Vacationers who arrive at Colonial Williamsburg and nearby Busch Gardens in May-before school leave for the summer-will be greeted with fewer crowds.
