The world has changed a lot over the past couple of decades, and the thing that changes most is the increase in the pace of life. We live all too fast, without even realizing on all the things that this fast life is costing us. And to combine it with another new change, we’re traveling a lot more. Whether it’s for work or for our own leisure, traveling can take a toll because it breaks our routine every time we do it. This is why it’s so hard to stay in shape when you are traveling – but it’s not impossible. Here’s how you can do it.
Have a flexible routine
If your exercise is usually going to an indoor ski hall or something similar that requires very specific circumstances, you’ll have more trouble sticking to it when you’re somewhere else. The easiest routine that you can do anywhere is one that requires minimal space and that you can do without equipment. So, even if you usually go to the gym and lift weights, you can ask your trainer to come up with a no-equipment routine that you can do right there in your hotel room. This way you can ensure that, no matter what your surroundings are, you don’t have to skip your routine. Sometimes, you can’t even go for a run outside, so something indoors will mean a great deal.
Make use of your time at home
Sometimes, our travel schedules can get so busy, we simply can’t find time to work out. However, if you are taking a lot of short trips with a day or two in between, use that time to commit to your workout. You should also try to do some relaxing exercise, like jogging or yoga, that will unwind your body and mind, and won’t make you feel overworked and drained on those few “days off” when you are at home.

Don’t make a big deal out of it – just do it, the same way as you would take a shower or eat breakfast. This will allow you to exercise while you are traveling without feeling like you’re “ruining your trip” or spending time on that when you could be spending it exploring a new city. After all, it’s just a half an hour, and you will be out the door right after. Try to do work-outs that are energizing for you, instead of draining, because you don’t want to spend the rest of the day feeling exhausted.
Book the right stay
If you have the choice when booking your accommodation, it will help you a ton if you find a place that has the things you need to exercise. Whether that’s an indoor gym at the hotel, or even a pool that you can get a few laps in, booking the accommodation with the right gear will help you stay fit, no matter how short or long your trip might be. If there’s no gym available in your hotel, ask them if they have a deal with a local gym. Hotels often have contracts with gyms so that their guests can work out for free or for a discounted price.
Most of all, it’s important to keep your motivation going, and remember that there is more to exercising than hitting the gym. If you’re on a summer vacation near the sea, all the time you’ve spent in the water is exercise within itself, and if you’re going hiking, then your whole trip is one big exercise routine.
