What Every Bride Should Know About Wedding Dress Shopping!

12/31/2018

It’s the start of the New Year!  Bridal Show season is upon us, which means lots of wedding planning begins including looking for a wedding dress. We understand that shopping for the perfect wedding dress can be overwhelming and frustrating at times. Here are 6 tips that will help you help you with your wedding dress shopping experience.

1. Be honest about the dress

Be honest with your wedding dress consultant about the dresses you try on. When trying on dresses ask yourself: “Do I feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in the dress? Can I sit down without feeling self-conscience? Can I move it in without feeling trapped? Is this a dress I can wear all day?” If you cannot answer these questions, it may not be the right dress , no matter how beautiful it is.

2. Strike a balance when trying on dresses

Dresses always look good on a hanger (they can look awful too). Avoid making a quick judgment. You must try the dress on to see it if fits your silhouette. This means that you may need to try on several dresses but not too many. Trying on too many dresses can lead to frustration, confusion, and disappointment. To make it easier, look at bridal magazines or Pinterest to get an idea of the perfect wedding dress for you. This will help you try on the right amount of dresses without feeling overwhelmed. If you don’t find the dress you want and begin getting frustrated, take a break and try again another day. Also, work with your dress consultant as they can assist you with finding the perfect dress for you.

 3. Don’t order a smaller dress size

You may be alarmed at the size wedding dress you order. It turns out that bridal gowns can run two or three sizes larger than what you would normally wear. We all have hopes to be a small size on our wedding day. So once you locate the perfect wedding dress, order that in the size you are that day. The great news is that when you lose weight, the bridal dress shop can always adjust it to your reduced size. Focus more on the look and how amazing you feel in the dress than the size. You will be happier on your wedding day as a result.

4. Begin dress shopping at least 6 months before the wedding

You should begin shopping for a dress 6 to 7 months before your wedding. Picking your wedding dress within 4 months of the wedding date is considered to be a rush. A rush order will incur extra costs. If you are under 2 months away, you may have to take whatever is on the rack. This could be frustrating as it may not end up being the dress of your dreams.

5. Shop for your gown with the right under garments

When gown shopping you will spend a lot of time in your underwear. So wear something pretty, which must include a well-fitted bra. Before gown shopping, get fitted for the perfect bra. There is power in having well-fitted undergarments under your wedding dress. Also consider wearing spandex. This will make it easier to slip in and out of all the wedding dresses you will try on that day.

6. Make an appointment

Make your appointment with the bridal shop to try on wedding dresses. This will allow your wedding gown shopping day is as smooth as possible. When you make an appointment it secures your spot. It is also recommended that you make the appointment for as early as possible. The store will be less crowded and you can get more attention from your consultant as a result.

The entire process of planning a wedding from beginning to end can be exciting or stressful. Your dress shopping will be better if you remember to be honest with yourself. Don't forget to shop early enough and follow the other tips listed above. These tips will assist you with having an enjoyable wedding dress shopping experience. Switzerland is a mountainous Central European country, home to beautiful lakes, quaint villages and the Alps with it’s stunning views of the countryside below. Its cities contain both medieval-style lodging and 5-star accommodations, with landmarks like the Zytglogge clock tower in the capital of Bern and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge as seen below.

This country’s industries are dominated by banking and finance but also is renowned to have many world class ski resorts and hiking trails throughout its beautiful and rugged landscapes. Also, it’s Swiss watch and chocolate makers are known worldwide. The Swiss people average eating one chocolate bar per day. Some of the breathtaking adventures activities, shown below,  is Mount Pilatus, in Lucerne, which offers a round trip up the mountain by gondola and a cogwheel train coming back down.

There are many activities to do in Switzerland. Although many believe it is purely a winter playground.  Upon arrival you will find it also has so much to offer year-round. The beautiful cities and towns dot the landlocked country with scenery beyond the imagination. It has approximately 7000 lakes, many with beautiful picturesque settings. Traveling throughout the country is easy as the roads are modern and very well maintained.

In such a mountainous country, it’s little surprise that there are tunnels galore in the hillsides – over 200 of them. As a matter of fact, Switzerland's Gotthard base railway tunnel is the one of the longest in the world – measuring over 35 miles in length, located about 1.5 miles under the Alps. It saves almost an hour transit between the cities of Zurich and Lugano, and also crosses Germany and connects the port of Genoa in Italy.

There are 4 major cities, Bern, Zurich, Geneva and Lugano, but the smaller ones such as Lucerne and Basel are not to be missed either. For instance, Lucerne’s name literally translates to “the City of Lights”. Visiting beautiful Lucerne is like taking a step back in time, where Lake Lucerne’s calm waters and Mt. Pilatus serves as a magnificent backdrop, a source of inspiration and is a playground for many hikers. There also is a museum called Sammiung Rosengart. Here, visitors will see the works of Picasso, Cezanne, Miro, Monet and Matisse.

In Basel, travelers can easily enjoy the many offerings of this city. Rotes Rathaus is the town hall at Marktpl, where statues in gold and green can be seen. A seven century old bridge named the Mittiere Rheinbrucke Middle Rhine joins the two sides of Basel is a great location to take a leisurely stroll. There is the Jean Tinguely Fountain or the Fasnachtsbrunnen, a beautiful fountain for great photos. Basel is situated on the Rhine close to France and Germany, where the river cruise ships can be viewed traveling daily in both directions.

Are Travel Agents a Dying Breed?

10/30/2018

Picture
One of the most common question that we receive at As You Wish Luxury Travel is: “Are travel agents needed when there are so many online travel booking sites?” Does the Internet helps or hurts travel agents? What are the benefits of using a travel agent?  First let’s look at a bit of what has happened since about the year 2000.

As a well-known liberal arts college town, Oberlin, Ohio has people constantly traveling to and from it. About 25 years ago  there were two bricks-and-mortar travel agencies in Oberlin. One was Oberlin Travel and the other was AAA. When the Internet boom took over in about the year 2000, it put a damper on these type of bricks-and-mortar travel agency businesses and they closed.  Online travel began to boom and as a result it seemed unnecessary for a person or organization, like Oberlin College, to use a travel agent to book what could easily be completed online in a few minutes. But travel agents are making a comeback and the Internet is a benefit to  travel agents.
Picture
At one time the Internet was a useful way to book travel.  However, there is so much information online that booking a new and different trip online can be overwhelming.  It can take at least five hours for an individual to research a vacation online. Isn’t a vacation supposed to be relaxing and stress-free?  Once the vacation is booked you hope and pray you made a good choice for all the money that is being spent.

When booking your vacation online, all you have are pictures and online reviews. Is that enough when spending hundreds, even thousands of dollars for a much needed vacation? What do you do if something goes wrong before, during, or after your vacation? Who are you going to call for assistance if there is a problem?  Just think, if you book through your trusted and well-resourced travel agent – most of these concerns will vanish or be resolved.
Picture
If you schedule the same vacation, year after year, then perhaps you don’t want to use a travel agent. However, if you are seeking new and exciting adventures such as high-end all-inclusive resorts worldwide, Hawaii, Ocean & River Cruises, romance travel such as honeymoon or a destination then let As You Wish Travel Agency help you.  We can offer low-price/price-match guarantee along with peace-of-mind before, during, and after your travel 24/7 to assist you if there is a problem.

Passport Book Vs Passport Card – Which is better?

8/14/2018

Picture
American passports became a necessity when traveling to and from Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean in 2007 as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This meant that 2017 marked the 10-year anniversary of millions of U.S. travelers need to renew passports to travel to those specific areas.  If you do not have a passport or need to renew your passport, perhaps you have wondered should you get a passport book or a passport card?

Passport Book vs. Passport Card

If you are thinking about taking a vacation outside of the United States and need to renew or obtain your passport, it can take up to 6-weeks, not counting any unforeseen delays, to get your passport. You may also wonder, if you can save a few pennies by obtaining the passport. It’s smaller and will fit into your purse or carry-on bag better. So, let’s compare the two, because it all depends on HOW you will travel that will determine whether you need one, the other or maybe even both.
Passport Books Advantages
  • For travel by land, sea, or air
  • Use to obtain travel visas
  • Used as proof of identity and US citizenship
Passport Cards Advantages
  • Very portable and can be placed in wallet with other forms of ID
  • More affordable than a passport book that costs $110
  • Use when traveling by land or on a cruise to Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada, and Mexico
  • Used as proof of identity for children and non-drivers
Passport Cards Disadvantages
  • Can not be used for air travel outside of the United States
  • Can not be used to obtain visas
Picture
Using the photo requirements will keep your passport from being rejected or delayed. More than 200,000 passport applications in 2015 were rejected because of bad photos. Here are some passport photo tips:

  • Photos should be against a neutral backdrop
  • Over or underexposed photos are rejected
  • Photos should have been taken within the past six months
  • The image MUST BE the right size, neither too large or too small
  • Photos must be of high resolution
